Charles Metcalfe
It is believed that Colonel Archibald Macdonell was the first settler in Osgoode Township just south of the current location of Metcalfe in March 1827. The original name for the Village was Hawley’s Corners. In 1877 it was renamed in honour of former Governor General of Canada (1843 – 1846) Charles Theophilus Metcalfe.
